Art Licensing Details

Art Licensing Agreements

Licensing allows your company to use my original illustrations and surface pattern collections on your products for an agreed period of time, while I retain ownership of the artwork.

Whether you’re developing a fabric collection, wallpaper line, home décor products, stationery, children’s products, giftware, or lifestyle goods, licensing provides the flexibility to create distinctive products without purchasing the artwork outright.

Every licensing agreement is tailored to the needs of your project.

Why License Artwork?

Licensing allows companies to bring original artwork to market without purchasing the copyright. The artist retains ownership while granting permission to use the artwork for specific products, territories, and time periods.

Semi-Exclusive Licensing

Semi-exclusive licensing offers a balance between exclusivity and flexibility.

Depending on the agreement, artwork may be licensed to a limited number of companies working in different product categories or markets. For example, one company may license a design for wallpaper while another licenses it for stationery or fabric.

This option allows brands to enjoy a unique collection while providing greater flexibility than a fully exclusive license.

Custom Artwork

If you’re looking for something created specifically for your brand, I also accept commissions for original illustrations and surface pattern collections.

Custom artwork can be developed around your product line, seasonal collection, color palette, or creative brief while maintaining the hand-crafted aesthetic that defines my work.

Licensing Terms

Every licensing agreement is unique, but several factors help determine the scope of a license.

Duration

Licenses are typically granted for two to four years, depending on the product line and marketing cycle.

At the end of the licensing term, all rights granted under the agreement expire, and the artwork reverts to me unless the license is renewed or extended by mutual agreement.

Territory

Licenses may be limited by geographic market.

Examples include:

  • United States
  • North America
  • Europe
  • United Kingdom
  • Australia & New Zealand
  • Worldwide

The broader the geographic distribution, the broader the scope of the license.

 Product Categories

Licenses can be tailored to specific products, such as:

  • Wallpaper
  • Fabric and textiles
  • Bedding
  • Home décor
  • Kitchen and tabletop
  • Stationery
  • Giftware
  • Apparel
  • Children’s products
  • Packaging

Restricting a license to particular product categories allows artwork to be licensed across different industries while maintaining clear usage rights.

Exclusivity

Licenses may be:

  • Exclusive
  • Semi-exclusive
  • Non-exclusive (when appropriate)

The level of exclusivity influences the scope of the agreement and licensing fee.

Scope of Use

Licensing agreements are customized based on how the artwork will be used.

Factors typically include:

  • Product categories
  • Geographic territory
  • Duration of the license
  • Estimated production volume
  • Retail distribution
  • Online and international sales
  • Marketing and promotional usage

These considerations help ensure that every agreement reflects the scale and needs of each project.
